7 weeks

This one I've been bursting to blog about since we got the 2 stripes earlier this month...when we had our check up with the OB-Gyn, she more or less confirmed it but wanted to see the ultrasound to make sure that everything's okay. Apparently, the fetus's heartbeat can only be observed starting at 6weeks so to make sure, she wanted me to have the ultrasound done when I'm nearing 8weeks.

And so we had it done last Saturday...and there was a tiny tiny white, longish image with a very discernible heartbeat...though hubby swears it was doing the otso otso dance (go figure!). It was an indescribable experience, a moment A and I shared which would be one of those that we'd never get tired of reminiscing :)

The doctor measured the baby's length and determined the age to be 6wks and 4days (which was a week shy of the initial assessment of our OB). Finally understood why the nausea and vomiting spells only started last week...I was expecting it the other week pa and actually thought I was one of those lucky ones who don't get the morning sickness. Hindi pala hehe. The OB who did the ultrasound gave us a print out of the magnified fetus...A asked pa if we could have a copy of the file pa talaga! Hahaha... oh, here's how baby looks like now :)

We had the other tests done yesterday so that we can bring the results to our prenatal check up this coming Saturday...our OB had me undergo CBC, Urinalysis, HepaB, Glucose challenge testing (because my mama's a diabetic).

I've been visiting Healthway Medical Center in Alabang because they're one of those accredited by our HMO. But our OB advised us against having the ultrasound and lab tests done there - because mas mahal daw. So we asked at OB-Gyne Ultrasound Center in Festival Mall - their trans-v ultrasound costs P1230...we had it done there. For the lab tests, we opted to ask Healthway and Medicard (which is A's company's HMO provider)...grabe ridiculous ang difference in the rates! As an example, glucose challenge test at Healthway costs almost P1k while it was only P230 at Medicard (non-member rate pa yan!). Syempre, we had the tests done at Medicard na, 'no!

The glucose challenge test was indeed a challenge - for nauseated people like me. I drank a cup of water wherein glucose was dissolved - imagine drinking a cup of dissolved sugar, it was quite difficult to hold it down..but I did it (albeit I had to shake my head a bit to relieve the icky feeling haha). As for the other tests, it required blood extraction - about 30cc of it...good thing I have never been afraid of needles so apart from the kurot which you feel when the needle is put in and taken out, it was a breeze for me :) Tests will be available by Thursday, I really hope I'm not in danger of having gestational diabetes...

On our way home, we got to talking about the future...we'd have to choose a hospital and of course an OB..our Ninong Doc who's an OB in Davao already had some recommendations...but only one was a bit near to us (his clinic is at the Makati Med). Do we opt to stay in Alabang later on or in Marikina so we can be with our in-laws? If we decide to stay in Marikina, we have to choose our OB, not to mention that we would have to expect to travel to Marikina for our regular check-ups. Hay hirap mag-decide...but I'm sure we'll be able to sort it out soon :)

Already broke the news to my parents, needless to say, nagbilang na kung kelan lalabas at sana daw ka-birthday nila hahaha...not yet to my in-laws, we'd like to tell them face to face...siguro when we visit them again one of these weekends :)

For now, I'd have to contend with this nauseous feeling every morning...medyo di na ako singtakaw compared to the past few weeks kasi nga nasusuka ako lagi hehehe.

By the way, according to the ultrasound results, EDD (estimated delivery date) is Jan.8, 2008 (ka-birthday pa ng bunso namin pag nagkataon hehehe)...
